How to play UMK3 online [guide for best netplay options]

Two beginner‑friendly paths: RetroArch for flexible rollback netplay; Fightcade for fast matchmaking.

Option 1: RetroArch netplay

Rollback + flexible, updated cores
Use RetroArch with the FinalBurn Neo core for UMK3 arcade.
Use snes9x, picodrive and pcsx_rearmed cores for SNES,GEN and PSX versions.
  1. Download RetroArch: Get the latest build and installer.
  2. Install and launch: Open RetroArch after installation.
  3. Install the core: Main Menu → Online Updater → Core Downloader → install FinalBurn Neo (fbneo).
  4. Add the ROM: Place umk3.zip in your ROMs folder. Keep any umk3p.zip / umk3uk.zip / umk3te.zip files alongside the base ZIP for special editions.
  5. Load the game: Main Menu → Load Content → select umk3.zip → choose the FBNeo core.
  6. Configure controls: Settings → Input → Port 1 Binds. Map HP, LP, HK, LK, Block, Run. Save configuration.
  7. Enable netplay: Main Menu → Netplay. Ensure both players use the same RetroArch version, FBNeo core, and identical ROM set.
  8. Host or join:
    - Host: Load UMK3 → Netplay → Start Netplay Host.
    - Join: Netplay Lobby → refresh → pick a UMK3 room to join.
    - Browse Online MK Games: Visit the Lobby on umk3.remz.ca.
  9. Optional tweaks: Settings → Latency → set Rollback frames to your preference; enable Run-Ahead only for offline play.
  10. Chat in game: Use the ~ key to the left of the 1 key on your keyboard

If you experience issues connecting you may prefer to use a relay server from the netplay lobby at umk3.remz.ca.

Option 2: Fightcade

Quick matchmaking + lobbies
Fightcade is a matchmaking platform for retro fighters with integrated rollback netcode and public lobbies.
  1. Download Fightcade: Install the client for your OS.
  2. Create an account: Sign up and log in to the client.
  3. Add UMK3 pack: Download the UMK3 netplay pack and extract it into your /Fightcade/emulator directory if provided.
  4. Join the UMK3 room: Search the game list for UMK3 and enter the lobby.
  5. Configure inputs: Launch UMK3 via Fightcade and map HP, LP, HK, LK, Block, Run.
  6. Find matches: Challenge players or accept incoming requests; Fightcade handles connection setup and ranking.
  7. Keep ROMs synced: Ensure your umk3.zip matches the lobby’s expected set to avoid desyncs.

If inputs feel off, remap inside Fightcade’s emulator settings and disable overlays that might add latency.
